yeah, the pogues are still an amazing live act (wish i could say the same for the popes), but when i saw them in la a few months back, it was the worst crowd i had ever been. the band was more than good enough to make up for it.

i saw the pogues last week in chicago, the second of 2 nights, and they were awesome. shane could hardly walk but he sounded great and killed on all the songs, funny how guys like vince neil cant do it but shane sure can. it was well worth the very very very long time ive been waiting to see shane.
the crowd sucked until the last few songs but thats chicago for ya.

Yay! Less than 24 hours left. The show I saw them was, far and away, the best live show of any band I've ever seen. And the guy was in a wheelchair. I hope they can repeat themselves.

atlantamoi, they're playing in Atlanta this year. You going?
I just got face-value tickets for one of the NYC shows. One of my most anticipated days of the year.

Morrissey is playing in a small theater three days before and I might try and squeeze into that gig as well.

My wife worked at a music store when this album came out. We cutout the head from the promo cardboard flats and wore it around as a mask. It was horrendous.

I'm going to the Atlanta show at the Tabernacle in March. Glad I'm finally able to see them live.

The Bus, do you still have tickets for an NYC gig? I hear they cancelled Thursday night.
I just got back from the Atlanta show and it was a lot fun. Shane was unintelligible between songs. Funny. Just glad he's able to get up on stage. I realized that when I listen to Pogues albums I like the variety of Shane vs. Spider and the concert was almost all Shane. Would have enjoyed just a bit more variety, but I enjoyed it. Glad I caught them!

Looks like Thursday's show will be happening on Saturday. I guess Roseland will be twice as packed? Hard to imagine how exactly that will work since I assume both shows were sold out. Why didn't they sell close to capacity?
I'm seeing them Friday though. Can't wait.

Tickets were good.
I'm 3 for 3 when buying Pogues tickets. I just think Pogues fans are, by their nature, not assholes.

Got there early this year (hour and a half after doors) and was able to stand about 4-5 people back from the stage, depending on how the pit was moving.

CROCK OF GOLD – A FEW ROUNDS WITH SHANE MACGOWAN deep dives into the life of the tortured Irish vocalist, best known as the lead singer and songwriter of the Pogues, who famously combined traditional Irish music with the visceral energy of punk rock. Featuring unseen archival footage from the band and MacGowan’s family, as well as animation from legendary illustrator Ralph Steadman, Julien Temple’s rollicking love letter spotlights the iconic frontman up to his 60th birthday celebration, where singers, movie stars and rock ’n’ roll outlaws gather to celebrate the man and his legacy.
Available everywhere December 4th.
Directed by Julien Temple

Shane MacGowan, the Irish singer who led the seminal punk band The Pogues, has died at the age of 65.
MacGowan’s wife, Victoria Mary Clarke, confirmed his passing on Thursday (November 30th). “the love of my life and the most beautiful soul and beautiful angel and the sun and the moon and the start and end of everything that I hold dear has gone to be with Jesus and Mary and his beautiful mother Therese,” she wrote in a social media post. “I am blessed beyond words to have met him and to have loved him and to have been so endlessly and unconditionally loved by him and to have had so many years of life and love and joy and fun and laughter and so many adventures.”
An exact cause of death was not disclosed, but MacGowan had been hospitalized in recent weeks.

Nick Cave now the only one left of this iconic trio. RIP Shane. Had a pretty rough run of it the last half of his life but will always remember the songs.

RIP of course, and great music along the way, but he really does fall into the "I can't believe he actually lived that long" category.

Sadly not surprising. I looked him a up about a year ago to see what he was up to, and found out his health was failing and he was in a wheelchair. Considering the life he's led, he was lucky to make it to 65.
